Terms of use
Last updated 13 October 2026
These terms cover the Movie Grip app and this website. Using either means you accept them. They are short on purpose.
The service
Movie Grip is a viewing diary and physical-media catalogue, provided free of charge. It is run by an independent operator rather than a company with a support department, which is worth knowing before you make it the only place a decade of records lives.
Your account
You need an account to use the app. Keep your password to yourself, use an email address you can actually receive mail at, and do not share one account between people whose diaries should be separate. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.
You must be 13 or older to create an account.
Your content
What you put in Movie Grip stays yours. Your entries, notes, ratings, lists and collection records belong to you. No ownership of them is claimed, they are not used to train anything, and they are not published anywhere unless you yourself mark a list public.
Permission is needed only to store and display your content back to you, which is what makes the app work at all.
You are responsible for what you put in. Do not upload anything unlawful, do not upload a profile picture you have no right to use, and do not store other people’s personal information in notes or loan records beyond what you need.
Film and television data
Titles, posters, synopses and credits come from The Movie Database and belong to TMDB and its contributors. That material is subject to TMDB’s own terms, and it is provided through the app for your personal use. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Fair use of the service
Please do not attempt to break into the service, overload it, scrape it in bulk, work around rate limits, or use it to distribute malware or spam. Automated access outside the app is not supported.
Accounts that are used to attack the service or to harm other people can be suspended or removed.
No warranty
Movie Grip is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is a small independent app: it may have bugs, it may be unavailable, and features may change or be withdrawn. Nothing here guarantees that the service will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose. You can request a full export of your data at any time — see the privacy policy.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Movie Grip, including lost data or lost records. Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited.
Ending things
You can stop using the app whenever you like. To close your account, open Profile in the app and choose Delete account; it takes effect immediately and permanently, taking your diary, collection, lists and loans with it. You can also ask by email — see the privacy policy.
The service may be withdrawn or an account closed where these terms have been broken, or if running the service is no longer viable; in that case reasonable notice will be given so you can export your data.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top will change with them, and material changes will be flagged in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Movie Grip after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and you agree to the courts there having jurisdiction, without displacing any consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
